By Way of Comparison

I know you shouldn't compare your children to each other, but I can't help but compare how Seth and Grace looked (or now look) at their major mile stones. These are pictures of them at the same ages. They definitely have some similarities, and a lot of differences.

Grace a few weeks old
Seth a few weeks old
Check out their noses. They totally have the same thing going on there until you look at their one year old pictures...

Grace, first birthday

Seth, First Birthday
Doens't Seth have such an older look than Grace did at a year old?
They look more like each other now than at their same ages.
Kind of fun to compare how their looks have changed and evolved.

Then and Now

 Seth one year ago...
 and Seth today!
Seth's birthday has made me reflect on the last year we spent together. One year ago we met our little boy. One year ago we were told our new born baby needed tests. We were told his heart might have some abnormalities, that he was high risk for spina-bifida. With tears in my eyes I accepted what might be. We anxiously and nervously awaited the results. We were relieved, and more thankful than words can ever express, when the results showed he was fine and healthy other than a  heart murmur that would go away in time. In the year that followed Seth had many doctor visits, he had to see an audiologist, a plastic surgeon, and a urologist. Each new problem that arose, we faced head on and overcame. It has been a very busy year ending in a major surgery, and now at the end of it, I look back with gratitude. I look at my baby boy and only see how healthy and strong he is. I am thankful!

One year ago Seth depended fully on his parents. He cried a lot, slept very little, wouldn't allow us to put him down to sleep, demanded so much of us. Today is a different story.

  • Seth walks (he had to learn to walk twice because of the cast. He walked at 10 months, then learned again one week after his first birthday)
  • He plays with Grace and is happier doing his own thing.
  • He feeds himself, and will eat anything he is given (or finds on the floor)
  • He no longer uses a bottle, and is quickly learning how to use a cup instead of a sippie cup.
  • Seth makes car sounds when he plays with his cars (he also makes them in his sleep).
  • He is obsessed with his daddy's tools and will cary them all over the house.
  • He loves to look at books, and loves being read to by parents or Gracie.
  • He tries to use a spoon when he eats now.
  • He has six teeth.
  • He can say a few words (mom, dad, uh oh...) and can mimic us and other sounds.
  • He has learned the art of tantrum throwing.
  • He pretends to talk on the cell phone (and also uses the wii nun-chuck as his play phone)
  • He is the worlds best snuggler! He loves blankies, soft stuffed animals, namely his tigger and little duck, and anybody who will hold him close.
  • He kisses! I love to receive them over and over and over again!
  • He is an absolute joy with the sweetest smile that melts my heart over and over again. I adore him! And can't begin to imagine this past year or future years without him! (Man, I'm feeling sentimental as I write this tonight...I know, it shows)

Seth's First Year Photo Shoot

Okay, I know I posted way more than I needed to, but I'm obsessed with this handsome little guy!

One Fine Day!

Need I say more about the casts removal? The pictures say it all!
(the arm cast came off as well, but it was a longer, more difficult process followed by lots of tears (some Seth's and some my own) and a little blood)

Celebrating Seth's first Birthday!

 The goods!
 The birthday boy!
To bad he had to celebrate his first birthday like this, though he didn't seem to mind.

First day of the rest of his life with chocolate!
He's never been happier! I think right now he might be wondering why we kept him from such a scrumptious treat all his life.

I don't think the candle tasted as good as the cake...
Present time! Grace helped again, of course. I think she hoped there would be a present in there for her.

What a happy day we had celebrating Seth's first year in our home and a part of our family! It was definitely a year worth celebrating!

Snow in Late June?

One hot June day we decided to take a trip up to the beautiful Tony Grove. On our way up the canyon we marveled at the fast and overflowing river...
We just had to stop and take a picture in front of this site. The water was running fast, hard, and high. The bridge to the other side was washed out.
Upwards we went, only to be stopped half a mile from our destination, snow covered the road! So much that we were unable to drive any further! Oh well, it was a beautiful drive.

Grace loved the snow in June! The sun and warm weather made it so much more fun than snow in January.

On This Father's Day

For so many reasons I adore this man and the father he has become! I love how happy he can make these two little babies just by walking in the room! It is obvious they adore him...but not as much as I do! Happy father's day to this handsome and amazing father!

Tough as Nails!

 Before the surgery
And after (a few days later).
He's as tough as nails! His smile is as bright as ever and he is as busy as ever. I'm so happy he is so good natured and well on his way to a full recovery!

Grace's Version of Three Little Pigs

Oh man! I could watch this video all day, it makes me smile!

Siblings That Play Together...

Have more fun!

(I just had to put this one in because he is so darn cute!)

(I love how in most of the pictures my kids are in there pajamas, but that's just how we roll around here.)
